EFFECTIVENESS OF THE DRUG BASED ON CHLOROQUINE FOR CILIOPHOROSIS TREATMENT IN FISH

Introduction. Ciliophorosis is a group of diseases caused by parasitic infusoria, including ichthyophytosis, chylodonelosis, and trichodynosis, which are widespread in Ukraine. The drug “Rybokhin” was designed in the NSC IECVM. Its active substance is chloroquine, the derivative of 4-aminoquinolines. Previous studies have been conducted to confirm low toxicity of chloroquine to fish.

The goal of the work was to study the antiparasitic effectiveness of the drug “Ribokhin” during the spontaneous invasion of fish caused by ciliophorosis causative agents.

Materials and methods. In laboratory experiments the Cyprinus carpio (n=50) spontaneously infested with Chilodonella cyprinid and Trichodina nigra mixed invasion, and Ictalurus punctatus (n=60) spontaneously infested with Ichthyophthirius multifiliis were used. During the experiment fishes received “Ribokhin” individually per os for two days in a daily dose of 2; 5; 10 and 20 mg/kg of body weight (by AI). The effectiveness of “Ribokhin” was estimated under industrial conditions in a dose of 10 mg/kg of fish body weight for two days to treat one year old Ctenopharyngodon idella (n–1500), which were spontaneously infested with Ichthyophthirius multifiliis.

Results of research and discussion. It was confirmed 100% efficacy of “Ribokhin” for chilodonalosis and trichodinosis mixed invasion of carp and ichthyophthiriosis invasion of channel catfish was registered after administration of two doses by 10 mg/kg each (by AI). Daily administration of “Rybokhin” with feed to fish in a daily dose of 10 mg/kg for two days (by AI) provides 100% efficacy in fish ciliophorosis treatment.

Conclusion and prospects for further research. The obtained results indicated that the use of the drug “Ribokhin” by feeding fish in a dose of 10 mg/kg (by AI) for two days provided 100% efficacy for fish ciliophorosis treatment. The preparation can be used in the practice of veterinary medicine for parasitic protozoa diseases control.
