ANTISEPTIC EFFECTIVENESS OF THE DRUG «ASEPT-VH» IN PREPARATION OF THE SURGICAL FIELD IN DOGS IN SURGERY

Introduction. To prepare the surgical field, an «ASEPT-VH» preparation based on polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride and isopropanol was developed. Under laboratory conditions, it has been proven that «ASEPT-VH» belongs to the class of slightly toxic substances, does not have a local irritant effect and exhibits high antimicrobial efficacy against E. coli, St. aureus and Candida albicans.

Thegoalofthework. To study the antiseptic efficacy of «ASEPT-VH» in the preparation of the surgical field in dogs under clinical conditions.

Materials and methods. The effectiveness of «ASEPT-VH» was compared with 5% alcohol solution of iodine and 70% ethanol in the preparation of the surgical field before ovariohysterectomy in dogs. We studied their effect on the resident microflora of the skin, the period of time during which the antiseptic activity of the drugs is preserved, as well as the development of purulent-inflammatory postoperative complications. The obtained digital results were processed by variational statistics.

Resultsofresearchanddiscussion. Preparation of the surgical field with 5% alcohol solution of iodine ensures its 100% sterility from anaerobic and aerobic microorganisms only during the first 5 minutes after treatment. 10 minutes after treatment, the growth of anaerobic and aerobic microorganisms is recorded. Complications in the postoperative period were not registered.

Preparation of the surgical field with the preparation «ASEPT-VH» ensures its sterility from anaerobic microorganisms from 5 to 50 minutes of observation, and sterility from aerobic microorganisms from 5 to 40 minutes of observation. Complications in the postoperative period were not registered.

Preparation of the surgical field with 70% ethanol does not ensure its sterility. Already 5 minutes after treatment, the growth of anaerobic and aerobic microorganisms was recorded. In two dogs, suppuration of the surgical wound developed in the postoperative period, which increased the period for removing surgical sutures to 9.8 days.

Conclusions and prospects for further research. The preparation «ASEPT-VH» in the preparation of the surgical field in dogs is more effective than 5% alcohol solution of iodine and 70% ethanol solution and can be used in practical work in veterinary clinics. In the future, we plan to determine the cost-effectiveness of the use of "ASEPT-VH" in the preparation of the surgical field.
