EFFECT OF A BIOCIDAL PREPARATION ON SPORE-FORMING BACTERIA BACILLUS CEREUS

Introduction. Spore-forming microorganisms pose a particular hazard due to their increased resistance to physical and chemical environmental factors. In this regard, the search for effective disinfectants capable of ensuring reliable inactivation of spore-forming bacteria is of significant importance. In veterinary and food production settings, contamination by spore-forming bacteria can lead to persistent environmental reservoirs and recurrent outbreaks. Moreover, the ability of spores to survive standard disinfection procedures necessitates the development and validation of more potent and targeted biocidal agents.

The Goal of the Work. The aim of this study was to experimentally evaluate the bactericidal and sporicidal activity of the biocidal preparation “Krezonid” against spore forms of B. cereus.

Materials and Methods. The study was conducted using a test culture of B. cereus ATCC 10702. The spore suspension was standardized to a concentration of approximately 1 × 10⁸ CFU/mL. The biocidal preparation was tested at working concentrations of 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, and 2.0%, with exposure times of 30 and 60 minutes at a temperature of 20–22 °C. After the exposure period, the activity of the preparation was neutralized, and microbial viability was determined by inoculation onto meat-peptone agar and into meat-peptone broth.

Results of Research and Discussion. The results demonstrated that the antimicrobial activity of the preparation depends on both concentration and exposure time. At a 0.5% working solution, only a partial reduction in viable cells was observed. Increasing the concentration to 1.0% resulted in a more pronounced bactericidal effect.

Conclusions and Prospects for Further Research. The most effective application regimes were a 1.5% solution with 60-minute exposure or a 2.0% solution with 30-minute exposure, under which complete inactivation of the B. cereus test culture was observed.

The obtained results indicate high antimicrobial activity of the “Krezonid” preparation against spore-forming bacteria and confirm its suitability for preventive and forced disinfection at veterinary supervision facilities.
