CLINICAL EFFICACY OF THE USE OF THE PREPARATION “CELEXIB” IN THE TREATMENT OF CRUCILATERAL LIGAMENT INJURY OF THE KNEE JOINT IN DOGS
Introduction.Injuries of the cruciate ligament of the knee joint in dogs are a common pathology of the musculoskeletal system, accompanied by pain, inflammation and impaired limb function. The effectiveness of the treatment of such injuries largely depends on the use of modern non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, in particular selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors. In this regard, it is relevant to study the clinical efficacy of the drug "Celexib" in the treatment of cruciate ligament injuries in dogs.
Purpose of the work. To establish the clinical efficacy of the drug "Celexib" (solution for injection) in the treatment of cruciate ligament injuries in dogs, as well as to conduct a comparative assessment of its therapeutic effect with the comparator drug "Simaldzheks" according to clinical and clinical-biochemical indicators.
Materials and methods of the study. Clinical studies were conducted on 10 Labrador Retriever dogs aged 6–9 years with injuries of the cruciate ligament of the knee joint in the conditions of veterinary clinics in Rivne. The diagnosis was established on the basis of anamnestic data, clinical examination and radiological examination. The animals were divided into two groups according to the principle of analogues (n=5): the first group was administered the drug "Celexib" intramuscularly, the second was administered the comparison drug "Simaldzheks" orally. The assessment of the effectiveness of the treatment was carried out according to clinical signs and clinical and biochemical blood parameters in dynamics.
Results of research and discussion. In experimental dogs, it was found that the use of complex therapy contributed to the improvement of the general condition of the animals already on the 7th day of treatment. In particular, there was a decrease in edema in the area of the affected joint, which completely disappeared by the 10th day. The animals gradually began to lean on the damaged limb, and the pain reaction significantly decreased. By the 20th day, pain was practically not observed, which indicated a positive recovery dynamics.
A comparative analysis of the effectiveness of the drugs showed that on the 21st day, the level of clinical signs in the first experimental group decreased by 80,0%, while in the second - by 60,0%. Complete clinical recovery of animals in both groups was recorded on the 34th day of the experiment. Both drugs provided pronounced anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. At the same time, the drug "Celecixib" was not inferior in therapeutic efficacy to the comparison drug.
The results of clinical and biochemical blood tests showed that before treatment, dogs had an increase in the level of leukocytes, total proteins, hexoses and glycosaminoglycans, which indicated an inflammatory process. After the therapy, a significant decrease in these indicators and their approach to physiological limits was observed. In particular, the level of leukocytes decreased by more than 25%, and normalization of protein and carbohydrate metabolism was also noted. The data obtained confirm the effectiveness of the applied treatment regimens and their positive effect on the animal body.
Conclusions and prospects for further research. The use of the drug "Celexib" in the complex therapy of cruciate ligament injury of the knee joint in dogs provides pronounced anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. It has been established that in terms of clinical efficacy it is not inferior to the comparator drug "Simaldzheks" and promotes the full recovery of animals. The studied drugs have a positive effect on clinical and biochemical blood parameters, which confirms the reduction of the inflammatory process in the body. The prospects for further research are to study the long-term efficacy, safety and optimization of the use regimens of the drug "Celexib" in veterinary practice.
