RETROSPECTIVE EPIZOOTOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF PARVOVIRUS INFECTION IN DOGS IN THE CITY OF KYIV FOR THE PERIOD 2013-2025 IN TERMS OF SEXUAL AND BREEDING FEATURES
Introduction. Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious viral disease caused by the parvovirus Parvovirus enteritis caninum CPV-2, accompanied by acute hemorrhagic enteritis, leukopenia and myocarditis.
The aim of the study was to assess the frequency of detection of canine parvovirus at the reception in the network of veterinary clinics "Zoolux" in Kyiv, its relationship with the sex and breed of the dog.
Materials and methods. For this purpose, an assessment was carried out of 3760 rapid tests for the detection of parvovirus in dogs of different breeds in the network of veterinary clinics "Zoolux" in Kyiv in the period from 2013 to 2025. Detection of Canine Parvovirus antigen in dog feces was carried out by immunochromatographic analysis using special reagent kits (sets "VeChek CPV Ag" and "VetExpert CPV Ag").
Results of research and discussion. As a result, among the 3760 rapid tests conducted, a positive result was obtained in 679 cases (18.1%). It turned out that males were significantly more likely than females to have canine parvovirus infection. Evaluating the dynamics of obtaining a positive result over the period from 2013 to 2025, we noticed that its share in the first years of the study was higher, which, in our opinion, was primarily due to the lower total number of examinations conducted in those years. In addition, we found that the VetExpert test system was more sensitive to the detection of the Canine Parvovirus antigen than VeChek (32.7% and 10.8% of positive results, respectively, p<0.001).
Conclusions and prospects for further research. It has been established that some breeds of dogs, such as: American Pit Bull Terrier, Mongrel, German Shepherd, European Shorthair, Labrador Retriever, East European, Standard Dachshund, were more susceptible to the disease. Further studies are necessary to find both methods that would allow earlier and more accurate determination of the etiology of viral enteritis in dogs, and effective methods of treatment and prevention of such diseases.
